Hyundai Car Key Replacement: What Makes Hyundai Keys More Complex Than You Think
Modern Hyundai vehicles use several distinct key and security technologies, and knowing which one your car uses changes everything about how a replacement is handled. Older Hyundai models from the late 1990s and early 2000s used basic laser-cut or double-sided metal keys with no embedded electronics — these can be duplicated quickly from code. Most Hyundais built after roughly 2003, however, use a transponder chip embedded in the key head. The chip communicates with the vehicle's immobilizer system, and if the signal isn't recognized, the engine won't start even if the key turns the ignition perfectly.
